The goal is to raise the output quality and decision-making confidence of your existing team, not to create a dependency on outside resources.
How do we know if our current project is at risk before it fully fails?
The signals are almost always there before the crisis. Sprint velocity declining without scope reduction, bug density rising across consecutive releases, architectural decisions deferred repeatedly, compliance gaps surfacing in sales cycles, and infrastructure costs outpacing user growth. If two or more of these are present, the structural risk is significant and the time to act is now, not after the next incident.
